I'm really curious to hear other people's thoughts on OWC's new "Upgrade + Support Plan" for their SoftRAID software. They posted an announcement video earlier today which can be found here:

OWC sells RAID arrays and configures them with their own "SoftRAID" paid software. Today, OWC announced SoftRAID 7.5 and a new "Upgrade + Support Plan" which they claim is "...an incredible value." Their announcement video explains that this new plan ensures that users get the "latest improvements and innovations as well as be protected from the ever-changing computing world". What they neglect to share with potential new subscribers is that SoftRAID suffers from a bad case of planned obsolescence. When an Apple user updates their OS, SoftRAID just stops working, that is until the user purchases an upgrade license. (I should point out that the user can still access data on their RAID array, they just can't use the SoftRAID software.) What they've cleverly done here is disguise this information in the phrase "...ever-changing computing world." When I pointed this out in a comment on the video, it was promptly deleted by OWC. Not just once, but twice. It seems I've struck a nerve.

One thing they did, atleast for me do well is ALONG time after id bought a pro key upgrade and then forgot about it.  I went back to try and setup a Raid 10 and found out it's not supported in the windows version, i complained and got my money back (tho it took several weeks as there support is very slow)

For me the software works using the Raid 0 option BUT it is very expensive for something you can essentially do for free with other options. and just to add the ability to go Raid 5 in the windows version it's certainly not worth it.
