My gpu should have 512mb memory size but according to GPU-Z and EVGA OC Scanner X it's only 256mb.

Is there something wrong with the card?

How much GPU RAM did your GPUs' box say it had?

Also, it might be time for an upgrade like he ^ said. You could buy a GeForce GTX 750/750 Ti which would blow that old dinosaur-of-a-card out of the water. It'd be an awesome upgrade for you but of course you'll have to check what wattage your PSU is. Although the GTX 750/750 Ti does seem to use less wattage than it recommends. It's still advisable to check though.

It's a laptop gpu, probably not very upgradeable.

Thanks for all the replies... yup, its a laptop just for backup and travel.

It should have 512mb vram. The specs:

Bit concerned as I just paid for a replacement gpu and it seems to be faulty.  Is there anyway that I'm reading this wrong??

you see, the fact that nvidia says 512mb it doesn't mean other producers can't make their own 256mb chip and sell it for less. I think this is what happened, you got sold a nerfed gpu and they didn't mention the nerf to spill you more money. I would return it with the warranty and ask for an explanation to the retailer.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

I think you're right Sauron... I've been ripped off.

Found a GPU z for this card on youtube and its not just memory size that's missing.  Here are the the things that are half what they should be:

bus width, bandwidth, shaders, ROPs, texture fillrate, pixel fillrate.

This may not be a fix but I did noticed the memory clock speed is also low:

Do you have MSI Afterburner installed? or any other underclocking programs? If so, reset to default and uninstall them and see if that works.

I have MSI Afterburner but have never used it to change any of the settings. Just used it to confirm details.

Will be calling the store that did the repair tomorrow. This is just not right. I am still covered by warranty as this is a recent gpu replacement.

Although you didn't change settings sometimes it bugs out, so still try to remove them with its settings reset if it asks, restart and check again.

The laptop was repaired by a store? What repair was supposed to be done?
