Yes, honestly.  When you truly want to start gaming on PC (and not just one game), then look to build or buy a competent machine.

Stepping into it with a $550 barely there machine will sour you to it, I think.

When you get $1000 Canadian and want to do this, that's where I think you'll see a really good machine that will perform as you are used to with Xbox.

That's $600 Canadian?  If so, it's not a terrible deal.  If US dollars, it's not good.

  • System: Intel Core i5-9400F 2.9GHz 6-Core | Intel B360 Chipset | 8GB DDR4 | 240GB SSD | 1TB HDD | Genuine Windows 10 Home 64-bit
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 6GB Video Card | 1x HDMI | 1x DisplayPort

Sim racing?  You'd want more than a 1660.  Infact, you'd want more than the 9400F, more than the 8GB RAM, and more than the 240GB SSD>  a 1TB HDD is worthless.

What's your TOTAL budget for this PC and upgrades?  We can spec out a better machine I bet.

I agree, there are mixed messages of people either getting a 600w or a 800w PSU with this thing as well. Apparently its a Apevia unit... oof =/

I would look to take the extra money and at least get a 2nd 8GB stick of RAM. Should easily fall within budget and is easy to install.

Well, when you ask what upgrades yoiu need to do, that kind of sounds like you have money to make them.

For $550 Canadian, it's okay.

Prices are wacky.  While you can get a 9400F for $151, you can get a 5600 for around that too.  Or that 1660 for $220, a used 5700XT would be that as well.

the main reason im fine dealing with a sketchy PSU and possibly motherboard is theres no other computers i can find in my price range that will perform even remotely decent

Like said above, you'll want to bring it to 16GB RAM and probably add a 1TB SSD to it (any kind is fine).  Then when it starts having issues giving you the performance you want, you'll build or buy an entirely new machine.

Maybe bring the 1TB SSD from it, if you don't sell it or repurpose it.  Nothng else will be useful by then.

I'd say that isn't a terrible plan. TBH if you're already happy with your xbox and there isn't a PC exclusive you want to play immediately, there's no shame in console gaming. When the time comes to build your PC, here's a link to the last guide you'll ever need, a comprehensive guide on selecting and building a PC.
