Looking at a GPU Upgrade right now, and these are the two prime options:

(I have newegg rewards to spend, so I'd be getting a huge discount on either price, so that isn't the only factor.  Either will be a bunch cheaper than listed.)

Gigabyte RX 6800 XT

Image

~50% faster (give or take) than the 6650 I've got now.

Or the other option:

Asrock Taichi 7900 XT

Image

Which is roughly double the performance of a 6650 XT.

Both look like good cards, and I wouldn't expect to have either mechanical issues due to poor construction.

My current screen is 1440p 165hz, and no, I don't play e-sports titles.  Most of my games don't get near that fps on the 6650.

What would y'all consider the better upgrade?

the best one for gaming would def be the 7900xt but one thing to think about would be bottlenecks so like could your power supply run it etc but if everything is up there than 7900 fs

Corsair 750W PSU, so I'm fine there.

i9 10850K, Z490 Asus Mobo

32GB 3600-16-<stuff>

What corsair 750? The rmx? If so yes fine IF you connect each port with  individual cable.

How much more would a xtx be? If its only a little might as well grab that 10% uplift but that is also the hard limit for your psu if its an rmx

It's the older model CX.  B-Tier.

The XTX is another 200+ bucks, and more than I'm looking at spending, so that's a hard-no right there.

Oh ok the cx white label or green label?

It might not cut it for a 7900xt. But you can give it a shot if the pc shuts down then you know thr issue

As for the 7900xtx yikes absolutly not worth that money above

OG Grey Label

Although it's ~6 years old, I should probably consider an upgrade sometime.

A 750W will be enough.

Two of my buddies upgraded to a 7900XT, both within a week of each other.

One setup:

  • Ryzen 3600X
  • Gigabyte Gaming OC 7900XT
  • EVGA G2 750W
  • Widescreen 1440p display

The other one:

  • Ryzen 5900X
  • PowerColor Hellhound 7900XT
  • Corsair RMx 850W
  • 1440p display

Note, neither of them have a CPU overclock other than XMP/DOCP.

I've got a Sapphire NITRO+ 6800XT, with 1440p display, with an EVGA P2 850W.

Under gaming load (i.e. Warzone 2), I have yet to notice the GPU power draw exceed ~300W.... at least, according to AMD Adrenalin telemetry.

My two-cents, go for the 7900XT over the 6800XT.
