What?

I thought there wasn't a version of Edge for Linux, but it turns out there is so I edited my post. I was trying to say "you can have Linux or you can have Edge, but you can't have both".

That's not what you wrote.

Your options for free non-Linux OSes are:

- ReactOS

- The *BSDs (might as well be Linux)

- Haiku

- TempleOS

None of them have the software you would need to do what you want.

...unactivated windows? Anything else that is actually competently made would be Linux kernel based, but i would implore you to just not be a massive dickhead about linux. Yes, it has flaws but it isnt a world destroying thing.

The main options for OSs are: Windows, Mac OS, Linux and Chrome OS. Everything that isn't one of these is likely for a specific use case and not everyday use.

Windows and Mac OS arn't free. Windows can be cheap if you buy an OEM key from an online reseller but it's never free.

Chrome OS is free but you can't install it on everything and it's very limiting. So this probably isn't an option either.

Linux and it's associated distros is what remains. Mint is what I'd probably recommend as its linux begginer friendly and UI shares alot in common with Windows. However, since your not interested in Linux this is out too.

In short, there are no free non-Linux options. Can I ask exactly what it is your after? Do you just need to be able to run Chrome and Edge? Is there anything else you need to run? What are you trying to do that needs Chrome and Edge?

Common build advice:

1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticeably improve performance past 240mm and don't improve at all past 360mm. 9) RTFM.

Edit: Apparently I haven't been down this rabbit in a while. @Needfuldoer had a few I've never really heard of. No idea what their app support is like, though.

Let's see...

ReactOS is an effort to write an open source Windows clone. The goal is to make a drop-in replacement that can seamlessly run Windows binaries. It's not built on Linux, but you can kind of think of it like an OS dedicated to running WINE.

FreeBSD, OpenBSD, DragonflyBSD, etc are all descendants of "real" Unix. (Linux is and always has been a clone.)

Haiku is an open source clone/continuation of the old BeOS. There's not much software for it, but what does exist works well.

TempleOS is... well... just watch. It's as much a curiosity as it is a technical marvel.
