Gaming pen mouse?

Do you think an optical pen mouse is viable for gaming? Every pen mouse I've seen looks jank or gimmicky.

Probably not but this is coming from someone who solely uses a trackball mouse for games.

I tried to use a trackball mouse when I left my mouse at a buddies house once and I could not even almost have a good experience with it. I am curious what types of games you have been successful with playing with this type of mouse.

Daily reminder that absolute pointers can do relative pointer. Cut the gimmick and use proper device.

Pretty much everything. I use an Xbox One controller for games like FH5 and RDR2 but rest is with an MX Ergo.

 

It’s a matter of getting used to whatever input device you are using. I am certain if you forced me to use a touch screen as a mouse, I would still figure out a way.

There are certain games that are much better played on a graphic tablet with a pen than on a mouse

Exactly, I learned on console, and so for shooters I prefer medium-high sensitivity controller because that is what I'm comfortable with. (I also have no aspirations of going pro, nor do I have the skills to. A solidly above average player who is really good at CTF and evasion but not TDM). 

For driving games: controller only, there just isn't as much granularity with keyboards I've found to make me think that keyboard is better. (Could def benefit from 2-3 extra buttons on the controller though given how FH4 doesn't let you not have Anna button or quick-chat button)
