Can I do this?

storm05

Want to install a new cpu cooler but the cooler back plate is to large. Is it safe to install it with no backplate. Just the rubber in betwen?

The cooler is arctic i35

It's a prebuilt pc case, acer orion 3000 P3 630

Prebuilt cases are weird like that. Its a hit or miss whether or not you will be able to use the case for other functions and builds.

okay, that's gonna be an issue.

Don't use rubber, it will fall apart with age.  See if you can find a Nylon Washer that will fit instead.  That would be a lot more reliable than rubber will be.

But will it put a safe amount of stress on the MB?

What material is that backplate made of? If it's non-conductive and you don't mind a little jank, you could try just laying the board into the case, backplate touching, and strapping the board to the case with zip-ties instead of screwing it down. Might need to run without an I/O shield though.

EDIT: Nvmd, didn't take into account the offset that would bring to your PCIe slot as well, so a GPU likely would be hard to install.
