Problem with r9 290 crossfire

Go to solution Solved by poseidon2988,

You need to disable ULPS

here is a simple way to do it

renember to reboot

and run as Admin

Hi,

I installed a second msi r9 290 gaming in my system and I'm trying to run a crossfire setup for the first time.

I reinstalled the 14.4 amd drivers, I reinstalled MSI afterburner and I enabled crossfire in CCC (I didn't have the option to do it before reinstalling drivers). The problem I have is I don't think my crossfire setup is recognized as the photo below shows and as I seen in game performance.

(notice the values for GPU2)

What did I do wrong?

but have you tried switching them, putting your first gpu in the secondary slot? sometimes the littlest things which make no sense work

or just the secondary gpu on its own

I guess I could try that. It might be the last thing I try since it's kind of a hassle.

I also failed to mention (and it's a small perhaps useless detail) that my second MSI gaming is a newer "revision" of the first one. It has the power adapters (6, 6+2) switched for an easier plug in. I think it's the only difference.

I only tried Thief, which is a recent game that I suppose supports crossfire. However, my doubts come mostly from the missing afterburner data.

can u use the becjnhmark tools inside the game and test with and without crossfire. if you get different numbers then it works. otherwise it doesnt..

its a energy saving mode. turns off gpu 2 then not using... thats why msi afterburner not monitor it...

Should be save yes.

you can always turn it on again ..

Ok so that worked. Partially.

Msi afterburner now shows values for GPU2 temp, clocks, ...

However, I ran a Thief benchmark and noticed a Thief benchmark and it only slightly helped. Coming back to msi afterburner, I notice that GPU2 values show it has only been slightly stressed. Small core clock increase from the idle 150 Mhz, slight mem clock increase from the idle 300 MHz, small gpu usage % oscillating between 1 and 8 %, ...
