Hello All,

I have a very strange issue with Bluetooth on my laptop.

So I'm running Windows 11 Pro latest version.

I've pulled out my Sony WF-1000MX4 earbuds to watch a movie. They connected fine but no audio.

This is were things get strange. When they connect they disappear from the playback devices list, disconnect and they show up in the playback devices list as disconnected.

I have tried the following:

Troubleshooter - Both BT & Audio

Uninstalled all drivers and reinstalled.

Rolled back Intel Bluetooth Driver from 22.200 to 22.110

Tried an older Realtek Audio driver.

Removed the latest installed windows updates

Ran sfc /scannow with no violations reported.

None of the above have fixed the issue, and I am at a complete loss.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

P.S I'd rather not have to reset my PC unless it is the absolute last resort.

Let's start with the basics.

  • Make sure the antenna(s) is/are installed on your computer properly.
  • Make sure that the antenna(s) isn't/aren't out of sight for the best reception. Be right next to it/them.

Other than that:

The issue is not with Windows, 95% of the time it has to do with the BT module or its drivers.

BT on PC space is a total crapshoot.

I have the same earphones.

Worked great on anything using Windows Default drivers, my old Surface Pro 3 and Work laptop.

With MediaTek Wi-Fi MT7922 which my ASUS board came with, audio for music works great, great distance, but when using it in a call, the mic audio skips constantly, people have trouble hearing me. My Xbox controller on BT barely works with it, high latency, misses buttons, disconnects even if the controller is touching the antenna. Luckily, knowing that BT is hit & miss on PCs as no manufacture cares. I got the Xbox wireless receiver for PCs and using that (also, it has the lowest latency, even if it would work)

If I use those cheap USB BT modules from Amazon, I have two of them, both works perfectly fine. They both use Windows built-in drivers.

This is the one I use now on my system: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0BNQ6PWDP, I plugged it behind on my monitor on its USB port for the best reception.

If you get any BT USB adapters, be sure to, before connecting it:

  1. Disconnect all connected BT devices.
  2. Remove them from the system (very important!)
  3. Go to the system BIOS/UEFI and disable your Bluetooth module if you can (If you can't, you disable it in Device Manager, but keep in mind that each OS version update, it will re-enable it, and can cause issue, so you'll have to remember to do this once or twice a year)
  4. Now, you connect your BT module, and search and connect your BT earphones. Enjoy

Thank you very much for such a detailed reply.

My apologies, I forgot to mention it had been working fine, until this problem occurred.

I'm borrowing a USB BT dongle from a friend tomorrow. If that works without issues I will just stick with using it.
