Using 2 different size RAM sticks?

Hello, in my PC i have a MSI Z87-G45 motherboard. I currently have corsair vengeance 11-11-11-27 (2x4GB) 1866MHZ RAM. If I buy another corsair vengeance RAM kit 11-11-11-27 (2x8GB) 1866MHZ RAM, will i be able to but them in the motherboard to have 24GB of fully functional, 1866mhz ram.

Yes that will work, just make sure you put them in the correct dual channel slots

 

So its probably something like

 

4gb, 8gb, 4gb, 8gb, check your motherboard manual for the layout though

It should be fine.

It will work in dual channel with somehow less bandwitch than 2 identical dimms but higher than single channel. But the difference I think you won't notice it at all.

Yea i even mixed up kingston ram & corsair ram in the past with no issues. It'll run all ram sticks at the lowest rated ram speed.

Yea. I ran Ripjaws in my system once, along with my stick of Vengeance and the configuration was 4gb x 8gb x 4gb x empty dimm. I even OC'd them to 1866MHz with the sticks at different timings. It will be perfectly functional.
