I had a problem like this, i turned off my PC and then i booted with the HDD disconnected and then shut it down again en then connect the HDD and boot again. Maybe that helps

Yeah you have to format it under disk management if it is a brand new drive. This happens to people all the time. Just right click computer under start menu and go to manage then click disk management on the left. Find the new drive and format it and you will be dandy.
