Hi, im building a system with a 13600k and a z690 mobo. I look online an stumbled across that the locking mechanism is bad on these mobos, advised that you should buy a contact frame. Is this really necessary and do a big difference? Im an inexperienced builder and saw that there are some risks if you dont tighten the screws a specific strenght. I dont wannt to damage anything

system:i7-7700,Gtx 1080,1x16gb 2400mhz, 4000d airflow, B250m mobo, 256gb unknown ssd, 2tb seagate hdd, 6x coolermaster m120 masterfan halo.

Upcoming build

i5-13600k, 6800xt, 2x8gb 3600mhz cl17 kingston fury, Aorus z690 elite, 1tb kungston fury ssd, 2tb seagate hdd, 4000d airflow, 6x coolermaster m120 masterfan halo, ak620 zero dark.

It's not necessary. A decent cooler will be fine.

I have a 12900k and Z690 board. I ended using a contact frame, I actually noticed very little difference (indicating my chip wasn't bent). Also what I noticed when I lapped it. What did make a huge difference in temps (over 20 degrees drop) was under volting.

Think of it this way there are plenty of PCs out there running 12th and 13th gen chips without those contact frames. That is more of an enthusiast thing to gain some head room if you have temperature problems.  If you are uncomfortable with the install, I absolutely wouldn't do it, not needed.

Im gonna be using a ak620 cooler aswell, so by your judgement i will be just fine without it, i think i will build my pc without it, then if i notice any problems with thermals i'd consider it later
