PC not entering windows

Go to solution Solved by RedN1njaRacer,

I have fixed the issue. I completely formatted my boot drive and reinstalled windows and its returned to working as normal. Now to painstakingly change all my settings and reinstall all my apps...

Computer specs:

- Ryzen 9 3950x

- Corsair Vengeance 32GB (2 sticks)

- Asrock x370 Taichi (BIOS ver. 5.80 i think)

- Aorus GTX 1080TI 11G

- Corsair RM850w

- Windows 10 Pro 64bit (2nd to latest update I believe?)

Hi all,

After a weekend away from home I came back to my PC unable to boot into windows. After turning on my computer, some of my peripherals turn on but then turn off immediately (they do not turn on again.) Once my computer fully turns on the boot screen shows up with the asrock logo and the bios options. Finally, my computer gets the windows orbs (sometimes also with the "Repairing your PC" prompt) and then right as it appears to finish loading my GPU lights turn off and my monitor goes idle while the PC sits in what appears to be sleep mode.

Solutions I have tried:

- Reseating GPU and RAM

- Replacing GPU w/ an Asus GTX 1080TI 11G

- Using a separate keyboard and mouse

- Booting in safe mode

- Turning off my PC (the power button doesnt work even when held down when its like this so I flip the PSU switch)

This has occurred multiple times over the past few months and usually turning it off and back on again has fixed it, however more recently it had not fixed itself by doing that and after many restarts it will boot completely randomly with the exact same parts in the system. I've managed to get into the BIOS twice and one of the times the computer booted normally after but the issue has occurred again since. There seems to be no correlation with any of the solutions ive tried and it working since its only worked when ive booted completely as normal.

If I failed to make myself clear in any of my points or you need more information just ask and I'll try my best to provide any if I can.

Have you tried booting into BIOS without your main boot drive installed? This will tell you if the issue lies with your Windows install or somewhere else.

I gave this a try and I got the code on the little LED screen on my motherboard showing "A6". It did not display any output or load the BIOS

This forum post points "A6" to being no bootable media detected, which makes sense, although it should let you access the BIOS anyway(most boards do).

Have you tried resetting CMOS?

I have not, however I do not know how to do this. Do you have a tutorial or instructions on how to reset it?

It's pretty standard across all motherboards; unplug the PC from the wall, pop out the CR2032 button cell battery on the motherboard, wait ~5 minutes, pop the battery back in, plug the PC in, turn it on.

CMOS is what stores all your BIOS settings, date and time, etc. It's an easy way to reset your BIOS to default in case there's anything there causing issues.

Ok. I have managed to enter the bios no issue after resetting CMOS. Should I go ahead and reinstall my boot drive or should I do anything else?

somewhere under troubleshoot you should be able to uninstall latest windows updates. since i know it was one around that timeframe you got problems i would try doing that.
