Linus may have answered this already, last thing I remember is him saying he still prefers apple watch even with android. I'm looking for a watch that mainly tracks some "basic" health things like heart rate, sleep, and steps taken (doesn't have to be accurate for steps, just a general idea). I don't care too much about accessing texts and other things connected to my phone. Any suggestions for some smart watches for android or is the apple watch still the best?

I'd definitely look into Garmin smartwatches. They have typical smartwatches and hybrid smartwatches depending on your preferences. All of them will have better battery life than either WearOS or Apple watches. There are a lot of different models though, so you'll need to find which one is right in your case.

I have a Garmin vivoactive 3, which can do all of these things. Battery lasts about 5 days under normal usage. When you're using it to track an activity (e.g. walk, hike, jog, …), while using GPS it'll last for about 6-7 hours. It can display incoming texts on your phone, if you leave Bluetooth enabled.

You can't use an Apple Watch with an Android phone, I'm afraid; Linus was mainly wearing the Apple Watch as a commentary on the sad state of Android smartwatches, at least at the time. He had it paired to an iPhone, as I recall, he just didn't really use that phone.

On Android, my go-to would be a Galaxy Watch 5 (or a 4 if you can find a good discount). It'll track what you need and is a good all-around smartwatch. Don't worry about getting an LTE version unless you'd like to leave your phone at home sometimes.
