Bent pins

Go to solution Solved by SansNation,

I will search for a different motherboard, then I can have the Windows XP experience I had when I was 6 years old

Thanks everyone!

odds aren't good imo, even if you are pretty experienced.. also see some corrosion i think? if its a board you already own, might as well try. if its a board you are considering buying, don't. what board is it? some of those pins might not be important, which could make it more possible. just curious, what happened to it?

Looks like possibly the top right row has pins missing? Looks like 2 of them are ripped out and the rest are too mangled.

It's a lost cause.

Ouch!  Just looking at the picture hurts.  In my experience, I would have to say the board would need replacing.  When looking at the pins, they don't necessarily look "bent", but they look like they have been "folded" over.  Kind of hard for me to explain.  When looking at the pins, they look more like the bend in the letter "L" than they do in the letter "U".  The legs in the letter "L" look like they have been bent over using something like a screwdriver and the curve looks like a sharp turn while the legs of the letter "U" look like they are curved.

The legs that are curved are under much less stress than the legs that appear to be folded over.  When they are folded and the legs makes a sharp curve they are much harder to bend straight because of the excess stress on the pins.  And when they are like this, they are more likely to break off or snap off when trying to straighten them.

So I think your best bet would be to replace the board.  Sorry.

Good Luck.

Just now, OhYou_ said:

what socket is this, what board?
it could be something not needed like memory channel or pci-e lanes that the board either doesnt have or can function without

not sure anymore , it some lenovo motherboard that connects straight to power instead having a power supply

Try it because it could be fun, but use it as a learning experience. Do not expect it to work.

I think you could try, but at first glance it looks like you're straight up missing a couple of pins, which may or may not be needed for it to function. If it was just one or two pins that were bent, you likely would have a very good chance at repairing it, but the fact that it looks like someone took a screwdriver and mashed like 15 pins down not to mention the appearance of what looks to be corrosion makes me think this board is destined for the bin.

Maybe use it as a way to learn how to repair a socket/cpu in the future, but otherwise I think you won't get far with this one.

Keep in mind that I am sometimes wrong, so please correct me if you believe this is the case!
