Hi everyone!

This one is complicated... i recently build an entire new PC to play Deathloop.

The specs:

. i3 12100f

. B660m Mobo

. 32Gb DDR4 3200Mhz

. RTX 3070

. 750Watt Gold+ Gigabyte PSU

I opted for the entry-level i3 12100f because it is generally more than enough for 60FPS (Locked with v-sync) at any settings in all the game i've tested so far... expect for.. Deathloop.

I don't know why but the frame-times in that game is completly awful, sometimes it run great (over 144 FPS without V-Sync) but often the GPU utilisation drops like crazy (under 40% on my RTX 3070) and the game start to stutter like hell with framerate all over the place..

So i've been thinking .. is my CPU too weak to handle that game ?

Because on my neighbour's PC the game runs flawlessly without stutters.. although he has an i9 13900K in it so... that's probably why it run great..

So do i need to upgrade my i3 ? I though it was a strong CPU but if it struggle to run a 2021 title, it probably not gonna last a long time before being obsolete for newer titles.. :'/

Both of the CPU's listed in the minimum system requirements for the game are 6-cores with SMT. Maybe the game just really likes lots of cores and threads and a quad core isn't enough?

I own the game but have never had time to get into it much, something I regret as I am a big fan of previous Arkane titles, so I can't say firsthand.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

What does your per-thread utilization look like? If you are seeing at least one thread per core maxed out fairly regularly then, yes, your CPU probably isn't sufficient for the settings you're using.

You could also try locking the framerate with RTSS instead of V-Sync. Some games' V-Sync implementations aren't great, as they continually buffer newer frames - which is fine for preventing tearing but not good if you want to reduce CPU and GPU utilization.

Looks like CPU bottleneck/lack of cores, you should have gotten a 12400 imo

Yeah.. maybe 4cores/8Threads aren't enough... but it's weird because most of the times only 5-6 Threads maximum are actually working even in extremely CPU-bound scenario as shown on photos joined below

I take 2 photos: - 1 photos with avg 50FPS with DF optimised settings

                         - and the 2nd with avg 75FPS with lowest settings and FSR Performance (to maximize CPU bottleneck)

The first case is not that much of a problem, apart from the low performance, it is reasonably smooth with freesync enabled... but when i hit very hard CPU bottleneck, the game become unplayable with micro-freeze that last for 4 or 5 seconds ...
