Budget (including currency): 2500 USD +

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly concerned about future proofing for new games.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I currently have a 5600x/6700xt based rig. Competent but unexceptional. Have all peripherals needed.

I currently have a rig capable of doing everything I need it to do but I want to upgrade to a high end spec. I have plenty of money saved for it but what I need help with is timing. I am planning to wait till at least Q4 2023 for Meteor Lake. I've never owned an Intel based system nor an NVidia GPU and I want to try it out. It would be an i7/__80 combination. My question is since this is going to be my baby for 5+ years do I wait until 2024 with Arrow Lake and the 50 series GPUs on launch or do I go now and get a 14700k and a 4080. Timing is always tricky with these sort of things but I want to make sure I'm making the right decision. I thought that since there are plenty of enthusiasts with more experience than me on here, I would get your input. Any advice helps.

Thanks.

You have fallen into the trap many builders fall into ( even myself! )  Do I wait, or buy now?   You can ALWAYS wait for better parts, if you do.. you won't buy anything and never build a computer. Q4 2023 is so far away that I would just buy now, a 13700k + 4080 will do very nicely for the next 5 years and you will have 8+ months of great gaming compared to waiting.  But you said you wanted to wait so go for a 14700k and a 4080 as you wrote. I myself have an RTX 4080 and only plan on upgrading when the 6080 comes out in 5 years time myself.
