it seems to me the store will be in canadian dollars. as far as being a cash option i dont know. but it would make sense to have as many payment types as possible available considering the volume of people coming through the expo

I don't see why they'd bother. Cards are a much more convenient form of payment. Then you don't need to worry about currency conversion, or having the right currency at all.

If you mean can you buy something in person without ordering online ahead of time, I would think so (similar to how they did the initial backpack sale). If you're talking about giving them paper bills and little metal coins, and them giving you some back if you don't have exactly the right amount of each kind, then I highly doubt it.

I'm not directly involved in LTX planning, but I believe the plan is:

  • We will be taking payment in CAD
  • We will not accept cash (electronic only)

We've run our last several in-person events (Whale LAN, backpack/screwdriver pop-ups) in this exact way.

That makes sense due to being a physical store. Also, yay for covid, killing physical bills.

In north America you can buy a "prepaid" gift card.

It's a visa branded credit card that you put money on at a grocery store or other "big" store.

They have other brands too, but visa is the one I know.

I don't know how long it takes to be activated though.

It's super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Just go to the website, put in your card number, expiration date, and the 3 digits on the back, you're good to go. It's the same for American Express or MasterCard, which also offer similar gift cards. Family member of mine used to work at AmEx so we'd get those cards every year for holidays and birthdays.

He was saying he's a foreigner and didn't trust banks/credit cards or something.

So if he goes to ltx and gets merch, he could use cash to buy a visa card to buy merchandise at the event.

Yes, I'm just clarifying to your point of not knowing how long it takes to be activated. It's pretty instant.

Figured we'd note the option just in case.

Maybe they'll make an exception if need be.

Will they have pins and screwdriver?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
