Well, which country and what budget?

Wherever you are, you have a choice to make - a decent tablet, or a midrange (so it's not frustrating) computer.

those are very light tasks so even a modern celeron or pentium shouldn't be frustrating to use

And I agree, I would buy her a good tablet (for example: Samsung Galaxy Tab A8, Realme Pad X etc.) for that type of usage. one of the people in my family did just that, They bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 to use for communication with others and I approved the choice, was valid

She has a tablet etc, but she prefers pcs, i live in sweden and i am not sure of her budget but since it doesnt need a gpu or such the price is likely to not be a problem since the pc doesnt need to be powerful

Well, a budget nonetheless is required. We all have differing views of "cheap, midrange and expensive"

Do you have a preferred webside you want to buy from?

Haha no those things are dogshit, theyll only be usable with windows 10 ltsc ( debloated windows 10) or linux. Slower than an e8400 running at stock 3ghz atleast the one i got thats now dead (n4000)

if you are considering one of those pos laptops go buy a used 3rd-6th gen i3/i5 laptop, far far better than a shitty celeron yet price is still the same, heck usually cheaper than the new celerons/pentiums

Very light workloads so a used 3rd-6th gen i3/i5 laptop will do, no real point in getting a pc if you arent running really heavy tasks

Pentiums aren't like the past, and starting from Rocket Lake and Above they are usable for daily tasks, heck they run at 4GHz the cheapest pentium in the US and are multithreading so no

To be fair i was using a shitty skylake era celeron, so maybe theyre not as shit as they used to be

still though used 3rd-6th gen i3/i5 are still pretty good performers if rocket lake and up pentiums and celerons are too expensive. I use a laptop with an i5 4200u and its still far faster than the shitty n4000, i could even turbo unlock it for the full 2.6ghz on all cores but i dont really need the performance rn

Do we need to add any peripherals?

if so here's my take: https://se.pcpartpicker.com/list/Cxs4fv

Alot of people will say that Pentiums suck (and in the past they actually did) but these days they are a viable option for lighter tasks I really don't see why it should be skimped and it's relatively low wattage.

Meanwhile a cheaper alternative and what I would actually recommend is buying a cheap dell optiplex locally or on ebay or any other PC cheaper depending on your budget new on your store or eBay or get a laptop in the same way

Look for deals on last gen parts(Intel i5 for example, or Ryzen 1000/3000/5000 series), a compatible motherboard, and a simple 2x RAM kit(Corsair is fairly cheap yet realiable). Pair it with a good PSU(look for good reviews, for security reasons), and a case with decent airflow and you should be able to put together a build at a low price which will last for years.

Depending on where you are in Sweden I might also be able to point out a good store for you(used to live in Göteborg).

I agree with Last gen deals but because you are gonna be using an iGPU and do very light tasks than gaming but:

1. You really don't need to swap out the PSU as you are not going to put any serious load so what comes with it is more than fine

2. Because we aren't talking like demanding games or anything, 2 sticks isn't going to be necessary

If pricing in Sweden is still anything like here in Iceland, a single stick is rarely ever more than 5% cheaper. Basically just put down 2x for longevity reasons 🤷‍♂️

Then just about any last gen laptop on clearance with good track record of build quality and aftersales support (i have long left the notion of "lack of bloatware" as a comparison selling point as now everyone but ODMs like Clevo do it) or m1 equipped Macbook Air would be my pick. You cant go really wrong with them, and if shes already inside of the Apple ecosystem she would appreciate the integration a lot. Or if she is just using things that are already integrated to the internet, id recommend Chromebooks as well. That is a bit off my field though, so im blank.

I see but if anything I have seen on PCPartPicker, single sticks are very cheap if you want to save money:

but that's whenever you want to save up to 82kr really

Actually a Chromebook is a good recommendation but unless she's used to using windows, it's better off getting some clearance stock or last gen laptops that use Windows depending on the price, either new or craiglist/eBay or something.

same with Desktop PCs

if she's into the apple ecosystem, an M2 Mac Mini or a discounted M1 Macbook Pro or Air (or older Apple computers but not too old in the market)

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but the cheapest single sticks I can find on pcpartpicker(besides sodimm) are around 650+ SEK, while I found this one on netonnet(and I'll bet there's loads of cheaper ones too): https://www.netonnet.se/art/datorkomponenter/ram-minne/ddr4/corsair-vengeance-lpx-black-ddr4-2666mhz-2x8gb/220662.8996/

690 SEK for some notoriously reliable RAM(cries in double the price here in Iceland)

Edit: Definitely doing something wrong, found some cheaper sticks now lol

For such a use case where the requirements are so low you could consider something as simple as an intel NUC. I am unaware of prices in Sweden but locally where I live many of the older NUC's are still availble off the shelf new and unused. It is small silent and very low energy requirements and might suit your grandmothers needs without an over the top budget.

I am of course assuming monitor mouse keyboard are all fine to be carried over.

About the same as mine but you really don't need to add up the price:

1. You can still go with 1x8GB and still be fine browsing and playing candy crush, save the money if you would like

2. you can just go SATA SSDs and still be responsive, save the money on that too

3. Wifi can be relatively placed cheap on the PCIe slot so no need for onboard, usually overkill for boards like the asus prime here considering the pairing and usage here. Otherwise you can use Powerlines or Wifi extenders to get a basic internet connection using Ethernet unless there's already an RJ45 plug

4. That case sucks to build on, I would choose another one over it

5. Since we aren't putting any serious load, a cheaper power supply is fine

Adjusting those 5 conditions we get this: https://se.pcpartpicker.com/list/Cxs4fv

Honestly, just get her a Chromebox if she doesn't need to run desktop applications.

An off-lease corporate desktop with a Skylake or newer processor will serve her well for years to come.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

1,2,5- That is literally in brackets on the Post

3- Cheapest PCIE WIFI card is still 200kr (only wifi 4 doesn't really matter but) and a non Wifi lga 1700 board is 1320kr so you are spending that saving on some think else.
