RX 570 consumes low power and performs worse than RX 470D

Go to solution Solved by Kepalajamuran,

Hi.

So I think the culprit is actually the PCIe slot.

I noticed the card only runs at PCIe 3.0 x2! That's why it performs so bad; that's why it consumes low power.

I tried reseating the card and now the card runs at x4. I can't get it to work at x16 as it should be.

Powercolor RX 570 Red Dragon 4GB (ex mining, most likely) consumes only 80-100 watts while it should be 120-150 watts. Tested on both BIOS.

Performance in gaming is worse than RX 470D (which is worse than regular RX 470). Only 38 fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider High Preset while the RX 470D gets 46 fps.

AIDA64 benchmark also worse than other RX 570. Especially in Memory Read which is only 1.6GBps while it should be at least 6,3GBps.

Things I have tried:

- reinstall driver.

- update driver to newest.

- switch to mining BIOS and install-patch driver.

- clean with DDU and reinstal driver.

- Reducing core clock to 1.100v.

- increase power limit to the max.

- reset mobo CMOS.

Things I haven't tried:

- reflashing the card BIOS.

- using different PSU.

- using whole different computer.

- repasting and cleaning the card.

- overclocking the card.

- begging the card to work harder.

Notes:

- Mobo and Windows always set to maximum performance.

- max CPU temp is 77°C.

- using 6+2 pins PCIe cable. It should be enough for a 120w card.

- the card's back plate is too hot, I think.

- but the sensor says it never goes beyond 76°C.

- my dead RX 470D can consume 120w just fine with the same PSU.

My old PC:

i7 4770

Asus Z87-K

12GB RAM, 1600MHz

FSP Hexa+ 400

Windows 10 21H2.

---

Update: okay, the weirdest thing just happened. Not sure if it's related or not.

My i7 4770 non K peaked at 4GHz just now. It never do that in the 5 years I own the CPU!

reflashing the card BIOS

You should flash the factory BIOS instead. There are two BIOSes, so it should be fine if one gets bricked.

Asus ROG G531GT : i7-9750H (-0.125mV) - GTX 1650M 4GB (1024c, +500 mem) - Samsung 16+8GB PC4-2666 - Micron 512G PCIe x4 3.0 - Samsung 860 EVO 512GB 2.5" - 1920x1080@146Hz (172Hz capable) IPS panel

Alt PC : i5-4590 (-0.125mV) - 萬家風 dual-pipe cooler - Gigabyte B85M-D3H Rev1.2 - MSI RX 6600 Armor 8GB (yes, I know...) - Kingston HyperX Fury 4x4GB PC3-1600 - Sunflower 500W legit bronze - Asus M32 workstation case

iMac 21.5" (late 2011) : i5-2400S, HD 6750M 512MB (MXM-A) - 4x2GB PC3-1333 (Samsung/Hynix) - WT200 512G (High Sierra) - (1920x1080@60Hz LCD)

Acer Z5610 "Theatre" C2 Quad Q9550 - G45 Express - 2x2GB PC3-1333 (Samsung) - 1920x1080@60Hz Touch LCD - great internal speakers

Test bench: i5-4590 - Asus H81M-C - 2x4GB PC3-1600 (Kingston) - Winten WT200 512G

checking Techpowerup BIOS collection. It appears the BIOS is for the 8GB version since it's the only one matching the clocks of my card. I'll try reflashing the proper BIOS.
