Im planning to build a new pc soon but l want to max out the pc I have now just because nostalgia. I have an Asus Maximus V Extreme with an i7-3770k and 16gb(soon to be 32) 2x8 kit of RAM. I want to replace my 970 with something that will pair well with my 3770k. As close to bottleneck as I can get on 1080p. I realize this varies depending on what games im playing and settings im using but a general suggestion would be much appreciated. We can assume medium to high settings and 60 fps if needed.

The 970 is just that. But if you need something more modern, a Radeon RX 580 or an GTX 1650 Super would do.

This, I can easily go from CPU bottleneck to GPU bottleneck with my 980 Ti.

With current pricing I think 6600 XT is the best bang/buck card you can pickup for the system.

An Evga 1060 SSC 6gb model. No reason to limit your self to 3.5gb even with that cpu. I played alot of BF1 with that cpu, being cpu intensive I still used a 1080 with it. But if going with even more modern and more demanding games, it can be an issue. Just comes down to how much you wonna spend I guess.

At 1440p the GPU is maxed out long befor the CPU in most 9f the games I play.

Thats interesting. I forgot I could increase the resolution to potentially reduce the cpu bottleneck. To some extent. I'd like to explore that some more.

Will definitely look into this card as an option.

Yeah the vram has been quite a limiting factor over the years. I dont mind spending a considerable amount of money on it because I plan to still use it until it becomes what I consider unreasonable to maintain.
