Why not just neatly tie up what you don't need and cable tie it? That's what I do.

I second that, tying them up is faster and cheaper

Have you considered the cheapest option?

Is it XLR or just a plain 3.5mm plug? As long as the cable you find to replace is good quality you should be fine.

I think the HD 5xx series uses a 2.5mm plug on the headphone side. If you can find one that fits it shouldn't degrade audio but the problem is finding a wire that will fit.
