I recently got a new WD Black 4tb HDD and I installed it in my PC. After startup, it beeps twice and doesn't beep again. Then, when I try to initialize it in disk management it says "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error". Anyone know how to fix this?

Have you tried changing cables

Have you tried changing ports

Have you tried clearing CMOS

@BiotechBenWhat's CMOS? And no I'll try a different cable

It's the chip that stores your BIOS settings. You can reset it by removing the battery installed onto the motherboard - just make sure power is disconnected entirely when doing this, or it won't reset. Alternatively, you can do it from the BIOS as well. But I personally doubt that's your issue.

@Godlygamer23Oh alr I don't trust myself enough to do that lol. What do you think my problem is then and how can I fix it?

Try the other suggestions mentioned if you haven't already and see if they fix your issues.

Taking the battery out doesn't always work, but there should be a set of pins:

With the battery in the holder and the power supply unplugged, use a screwdriver or paper clip to jump the pins.

It has to work at some point. The battery is the only thing that gives it power once it's disconnected from mains. However, I do see where you're coming from - it can take a few minutes for it to reset.

Exactly, depending on how good your capacitors are with that, it could be a few minutes. I've seen a few people where even after 15 minutes it still hadn't cleared.

Yeah since then I've changed around my power cable and such. My computer recognizes it but I can't initialize it. I downloaded the WD Black drive software and it pops up, but I can't use it since it won't let me initialize it. If I have to remove the CMOS battery I could try but it seems to sketchy.
