Help creating custom USB cable

I recently was browsing through this forum and noticed a few users had done a fantastic job of making completely custom USB cables. I decided it would a nice side project to attempt. However, I've been looking around for parts and I was able to find just about everything I need except the USB connector housing. Does anyone on the forums know of a good site to use to find all the parts I would need (connectors, cable, connector housing, etc.) to create a custom micro USB to USB cable?

In regards to the parts, I'm not sure you'll need to buy any USB connectors. I'd imagine all you'd need to do was open up the USB casing around the USB plug, remove the wires from the USB plug, customize your cable and reattach the wires to the USB connector and close back up the USB casing.

 

Yeah I was reading that guide the other day and it definitely looked like they purchased the usb connector housing themselves. That guide and the 1-2 I saw on the Modding Forum here used the same USB connector housing that looks like it just snaps together so I have to imagine they purchased the housing separately from some electronic parts store, but I've tried looking on mouser and digikey and haven't found any available. Their sites are a bit difficult to navigate and identify specific parts if you don't know part numbers or the very specific name for that part and to my best knowledge the plastic around the connector is called the USB connector housing and I couldn't find anything. Maybe it's not actually called that?

Found it! Took awhile browsing through digikeys USB connector accessories but i did manage to find the housing. Product was labeled as USB Hood.

xD completely forgot about ebay. Just went on there and they have tons of options from Chinese sellers.
