Hi, I've owned the Siberia Elite since January, and it has been good so far. After about a month of owning it, my friends started complaining that my microphone would suddenly start making static noises and my voice would sound really bad. Only way to fix this was to replug the headset, resulting in loss of sound in-game in games like Skyrim, and loss of music in games like Dota. Which is starting to become extremely annoying, so annoying infact, that I use my old Logitech G35 for anything where I have to have the microphone and headset at the same time.

Any Elite owners here who have this issue, or don't have it, or know how to fix it?

You could first of all make sure it isn't the audio input in your PC, have you tried using it with any other device?

I'm pretty sure it isn't, as it only occurs when I use the included USB soundcard, and I had no mic issues with my G35 for 2 years.

  • 1 month later...

I recently bough the Siberia Elite aswell, and I am having the exact same problem as you mentioned! The mic worked for about a week and now it has tons of static noise. Im thinking about returning it and getting another model from steelseries :/

EDIT: If you use the analog input removes the static noises, but analog is inferior to digital. I tried unpluging my extention cable and the noise seems to be gone, I cant say that it works 100% as I have only had it this way for about 5 min ^^ Although it's worth a try if you still own them :)

No, don't. There's a fix already, some beta firmware. I can probably find a link to it.

Here.

"This beta release contains new firmware (version 4.55.5.0) that fixes two known issues:

1. Microphone distortion (also reported as laser/robotic sounds)
2. Audio distortion at 96kHz playback rate

Please download the following and let us know if you still experience any issues with the new firmware:

mac:
http://cdn-co.steelseries.com/downloads/drivers/engine/SteelSeriesEngine3.2.3-beta.pkg

windows:
http://cdn-co.steelseries.com/downloads/drivers/engine/SteelSeriesEngine3.2.3-beta.exe

After downloading and installing SteelSeries Engine 3, you will see an update notification:

Please follow the on screen steps to upgrade to firmware on the soundcard.

After the update is complete, and you disconnect and reconnect the device, your firmware version should show up as 4.55.50:

One other note: Since this is a beta version of the software, please note that the "Update" status indicator will be alerted to tell you to download the latest version of SSE 3. Please do not, this is actually a "downgrade" to the current public release of 3.2.2."
