1. Budget & Location

1600€ in Germany but it can go a bit higher if it's a good performance increase.

2. Aim

In gaming some Halo Infinite, Diablo IV (requirements unclear), a bunch of less GPU demanding games (think LoL/WoW), hosting CIV6(or CIV7 when it's released, also requirements unclear) LANs. I also do some CAD.

3. Monitors

2 monitors: one 1920x1080 and one 1680x1050. I will upgrade this year so my current 1920x1080 will become my secondary screen and I will get a new main screen(I will gladly take tips on this).

4. Peripherals

I have everything in this department.

5. Why are you upgrading?

I currently use a laptop but the i7-6700HQ is getting slow.

6. Parts List

https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/fQscKp

The Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler doesn't show a price but I found it for ~40€.

I always had Intel CPUs and Nvidia GPUs, so all AMD is new to me. The AMD CPU seems better than the same price Intel ones but I'm not sure at all about that. I am completely lost when it comes to GPUs.

The hope is to have a good upgrade path in the future.

I'd slide down to a 7700x and bump the GPU to a 6800xt.   The RAM should be at 6000MHz for AM5 sweet spot.

Otherwise solid.

The reasoning is the 7700X is the best bang/buck gaming CPU in the AM5 range, and 8c/16t is still good for CAD work.  Pushing PBO and Curve Optimzer will keep temps down and speed up, mine is hitting 5.45 all core and 5.7 single (working on more)..

Though I can't say anything bad about the 7900x, as it's stout as hell but the 7700x / 6800xt makes more gaming sense than 7900x / 6700xt.

Hey, thanks for the quick response! Is there a reason that the non XT GPUs are always skipped? Are they just less cost-efficient?

For the RAM, I just took 5600MHz because it was the most common I saw with these CPUs. Is 6000MHz better even if the CPU isn't overclocked?

I build it around the 7900x instead of the 7700x because the extra cores should help in CAD. Also with CPUs getting more cores recently, it is possible that 8core may be a bit low for games in a not so distant future but this is pure speculation. Basically I started with the 7900x because it will probably "last" longer and it had some benefits for CAD but I take any tips I can get here.

I just checked the specs of the XFX RX-68XTACBD9 Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB Video Card and saw that it requires a 750W PSU, is that just them wanting to sell me a 750W PSU or is the 514W I got from pcpartpicker correct so a 650W 80+Gold should be enough?

750 is recommended by AMD to account for low end units.  A Pure Power 11 is a very nice power supply and 650 watts should cover it just fine.  You will honestly get better temps and more consistent fps out of the 6800xt by undervolting it, which will lead to it using less power anyway.

But with a 7900x you are cutting it close.  You should honestly get a lower core count CPU.  You are wasting money on cores that will never be used. A 7600 or 7700 would be more than enough.  You could honestly get a better GPU with this budget if you got a smaller CPU that would game exactly the same.

Honestly, if a 6700xt is fast enough of a GPU for you, you could just save A LOT of money going with a 5600 or 5700x, especially if you are getting a 1440p monitor.

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.

That makes sense. Thanks!
