The controller is haunted

So the other day I was using my controller and it was refusing to charge, unbothered to deal with it I just left it on the side to figure it out the morning after. Later on the charging indicator light starts going off, I don't remember plugin it so I go and check it out. There was no charger connected but the light kept going on, I tried to turn it on, reset, press every button and connect it to a charger but it just didn't stop. Called it a day as I was already quiet tired, went to sleep and woke up to my controller dead. I think a battery replacement should fix it, but if anyone has any suspicions of something else going on let me know as I am definitely unqualified to be an electrician at this moment. Your second opinions are appreciated.
