Hi all,

For the past few months (but not before) my Omen PC (running current Windows 10) has developed an audio issue, which is present regardless of speakers (analogue, USB) but (update) all appears to be good with bluetooth. After maybe 10-20 seconds, the audio starts crackling and/or some static appears randomly.

I tried the same videos affected on other devices, they are good. I tried the same video a few times, but the issues are so frequent that it is hard to tell if they appear at the same moments in the video or randomly.

I tried booting the PC from a Ubuntu USB stick but then audio volume was so low (and could not be increased) that it was difficult to hear if the issue persisted.

The same PC cannot be upgraded to Windows 11 because Windows Update says it's not suitable while at the same time MSFT's compatibility app says it's good.

Any ideas?

For what it's worth, the problem went away.

Audio is completely fine again.

My guess is that a HP update broke it and another HP update, almost a year later, fixed it.

I think I will stop buying HP desktop computers after I already gave up on their laptops*.

*I gave up on HP laptops not because of any quality issues but because very few and mostly older models were even available here in Switzerland, replacement parts are not easily sourced (or identified) and the rather big power brick needs a three-pronged plug which makes travel between Switzerland and the EU difficult (needs a suprisingly big adapter since the EU uses a different three-prong plug system while two-pronged plugs are compatible). Since I travel to France and Germany a lot, this was particularly annoying.
