Only difference is in memory benchmarks. You wont notice  any  difference in normal applications or gaming.

 

1x8GB is recommended over 2x4GB

Yeah, I've always said one stick with a higher capacity is better than 2 sticks equaling the same capacity. Not to mention the other benefits such as having that extra open slot to add more in the future.

Therefore in your case, go with the x1 8GB method.
