its an anti virus, i dont want it running all the time i tried every normal way i can think from stopping but it still starts with my computer

antivirusses, by design, work around the normal startup ways, for two very simple reasons:

1. virusses may try to load before the AV, to avoid detection. because of this it is essential that a good antivirus has components initializing as early as possible.

2. if you can just disable it's startup in task manager, so can every nefareous piece of software.

essentially.. assuming you're running windows 10.. if you dont have the budget to upgrade your pc so the heavier antivirus doesnt bog it down.. uninstall it and stop paying for the license. not having it run at preboot is enough of a security problem you may as well just have windows defender isntead.

which - by the way, the moment you disable your own AV, windows defender will initialize it's own protections, and these days those are pretty darn good.

I have a program that starts with windows, however it doesn't show in the task manager start up tab, is there any other way i can stop it from starting with windows and only initialize when i want it to?

Could be a service that's starting.

Also could be buried in the registry, but that's a pain to slog through to find.

What program is it?

That's gonna be tricky as most of those boot with windows, and disabling them CAN have side effects. All the same, check the Services section under Admin Tools....bet you'll find the option there, though SOME AV program (Norton used to be notorious for this) will not allow you to disable the starting services

Why would you not want this starting with Windows?

Have you tried turning it off and on again? Maybe Restart it?

mostly because performance hit slow pc, i just want to run it every so often when i have the need for it basically

I understand, you could upgrade your RAM and your CPU if you want your PC to boot faster.

Have you tried turning it off and on again? Maybe Restart it?

thats the plan but running a bit low on money so yeah

rn i basically just want to have it installed, and when i need to run a scan, or have some extra protection turn it on, and then turn it back off when i no longer need it, cuz i dont really need an anti virus running when im playing a game or watching youtube

So malware can't disable the AV software.

ANyway, go to COntrol Panel, then Administrative Tools, then Services. Services should be sorted by A to Z, so you should be able to find the AV by name
