CPU Upgrade and BIOS Flash

Go to solution Solved by YoungBlade,

Yes, but with a few caveats:

First, you might not be able to do a single jump to the newest BIOS. Whether or not you need to do intermediate updates will depend on your particular board - check their website for information about past BIOS releases and see if any of them say they require a previous version to update to.

Second, after the update, you will not be able to boot with your A12-9800 anymore. This will also be the case if you do have to go through intermediate versions and you hit one that doesn't support the APU anymore.

So, if you are allowed to do a jump from the BIOS version previous to 5862 to 6042, then you'd be okay once you have the 5500 in hand, but if you need to do an intermediate jump between those, then you'll need a different CPU to finish the process..

Hello. Can i upgrade from A12-9800 to AMD Ryzen 5 5500? My BIOS version is 0212 (the oldest one) and i need 6042 (the newest one) but they removed AMD 7th Gen A-series/Athlon X4 processors support since BIOS version 5862 so will i be able to flash the bios from a12 9800 and install the ryzen 5 5500 after the flash? Is it possible?

Thank you so much.
