Used 3080

Batman x

Hello, I’m doing some shopping for a used GPU via eBay as I’m looking to save a couple hundred dollars. I was wondering what people thought was a good price for a used 3080? I am seeing prices around $500 (on the nose), I’m wondering if that’s a good value if the GPU is in good condition

No gpu is worth the hassle of buying used from eBay.  Will it even work when you get it?  Has it been gamed on 247 for 8 months with some sketchy gaming bios installed on it, leaving the thermal solution dry and unreliable, leaving you with an artifact mess after a few minutes of use?

Nobody knows and there is no warranty, your time wasted on some eBay junk will easily cover the cost of a new card from a reputable retailer.

Eh, completely disagree.

eBay has absolutely rock solid return policies. Doesn't work? Get your money back. Doesn't show up? Get your money back. Don't want it? Return it.

Simple.

The sketchy gaming BIOS is such a fringe case it's laughable it's even mentioned.

Also, no, it's not the same cost buying on eBay as buying new.

Yes, exactly, a giant waste of time if you get something defective.

"gaming bios" was a joke, it should be obvious that ex-mining cards have flooded the market.

$500usd for a used 3080

$750usd for a new one.

That's a $250 USD difference.  How much is your downtime or uptime worth.  You could spend hours of your life sending the card back and then finding and waiting for another used one, maybe that one fails too.  You never lost money but you lost a lot of time.  Time=money.  Value your time, it's a limited resource.

I wouldn't really get a used 3080 personally. As much as I hate the pricing of the 40 series, it is just SO much better with the new TSMC 4n node etc. I'd wait for a hypothetical 4070 or something or bite the bullet on the overpriced 4070ti, as much as it kills me to say

I hear you. I just don't want to spend all that money on a GPU hence the used 3080 and anytime I can avoid funding the green machine I'm all for it. Also with the pricing of the 4070ti, I have no hope for the 4070 and will be happy to get a 3080 for around 500 if possible to do so.

Out of 20 or so cards, half were used. Last one was a 3090 from ebay. Continues to work perfectly fine.
I'd gladly pay 500 for a 3080. Anything is better than playing on my old 1080ti. As long as its an FE model or a Evga using a reference board.

Ended up getting an all white 3080 (had to pay the all white tax) but for slightly over 500. Will update when it comes in.

I've recently purchased a 3060 for a friend of mine who is currently on a 1080ti. Is there any reasonable performance gains with DLSS enabled? I've seen charts showing the 1080ti pooping over the 3060 😕
