Hey forum.

I'm planning on building a new multipurpose PC.
Mostly used for: VMware(4 to 8 vms), Gaming(not high-graphics. such as GTA, LoL, WoW and Diablo).

I'm planning on using it for at least 5 to 6 years with out upgrades.

OS:

  1. Windows 8.1
  2. CentOS 6.5
  3. ESXi 5.5

Hardware:

  • CPU:        Intel Core i7 4930K Boxed
  • Mobo:      Asus P9X79-E WS
  • Video:      MSI GeForce GTX 770 Gaming
  • Case:       Fractal Design Define XL R2
  • Cooler:     Noctua NH-D15
  • Fans:       2x Noctua NF-S12B ULN, 120mm
  • SSD         2x Samsung 840 EVO 250GB (1 dedicated for vm's)
I have trouble choosing the right...
  • PSU         Seasonic Platinum Series  760 or 860 watt
  • RAM        G.Skill RipjawsZ F3-12800CL7Q-16GBZM   or   Kingston HyperX PnP KHX16C9P1K2/16

I will appreciate all suggestions, opinions and help on choosing the right hardware.

Thank you!

The define XL isnt a recommendation that i can stand by, im gonan throw an odd ball at you, the thermaltake T81 is friggin awesome, sadly its made by thermaltake so no one has heard about it.If you have already brought the case its fine but honestly the T81 will have better temps and will be quieter, i remember because i made a thread on it then it came out. As for ram, get the cheaper one. Also as a warning ive had an issue with a lot of seasonic psus, they work great however for some odd reason the screw holes dont always line up, so it will be a psu with only three screws in, no idea why, as a result i only use corsair, XFX and evga or be quiet for sfx.

cpu: intel i5 4670k @ 4.5ghz Ram: G skill ares 2x4gb 2166mhz cl10 Gpu: GTX 680 liquid cooled cpu cooler: Raijintek ereboss Mobo: gigabyte z87x ud5h psu: cm gx650 bronze Case: Zalman Z9 plus

Listen if you care.

Cpu: intel i7 4770k @ 4.2ghz Ram: G skill  ripjaws 2x4gb Gpu: nvidia gtx 970 cpu cooler: akasa venom voodoo Mobo: G1.Sniper Z6 Psu: XFX proseries 650w Case: Zalman H1

your rig wont consume more than 500W, so the 760W variant is fine.

btw great part selection! ;)

I already knew about the thermaltake case but its kinda hard to get for now here in the Netherlands

760watts PSU is enough. certainly a platinum one
