Since the next line of nvidia gpu's (and amd aswell) could be rolling out soon, and everybody is so excited about it, BUT wouldn't it be a better trade off to wait for the maxwell gpu's to roll out in 2014, especially if you already own a 6xx gpu.

Please post your thoughts here:)

I'd say if you have a 600 series graphics card, don't upgrade for a while. I usually skip generations with mine, and something as powerful as a 600 series won't really be struggling with any games that will be coming out between now and whenever you feel you do want to upgrade. Unless you're made of money, and then by all means BUY AAALL THE GPU'S!!!!!!!!!!

Ill be selling my 7970 before the 8970/780 release and getting one on release day.

Extra performance is always nice and besides I want something new to play with.

Not really expecting a huge increase in performance over the current gen but no point in speculating too much. but we can still hope to be blown away.

As for waiting, only buy if you need/want a new card now or you could be waiting forever.

The problem with doing that Nexus is that you will be stuck with reference coolers and cards, which will run hotter and louder the the card that you currently have and in like a recent video that Linus did all the reference 7970s that hes seen have all had coil whine.

I've been doing it for years as i always want the latest and greatest.

7970s do have bad coil whine on most cards (had to send 2 back under warranty before getting one that has almost none) but the temps don't bother me and once you set up a custom fan curve the fan noise is more than acceptable.

But if you wait too long, then you could end up with locked voltages. I'd rather watercool a reference card I can overclock, than have a pretty non-reference card I can't do much with.

True yes but with what has been happening this year with unlocked cards I can imagine that any will be unlocked at release of the next gen of card on both sides of the fence.

I have a 670 now and plan on upgrading a little while after the release of the new cards. My only reason for this is that as far as I can tell, my card doesn't have a full cover waterblock available and I plan on watercooling soon-ish. So since I'll have to get another one anyway, why not get a new one :)

but i came to think that if your planning on upgrading your whole system (and don't need it immediately) 2014 looks like a good year to do it:) new Mobo's, cpu's, gpu's, ddr4 ram + faster and cheaper ssd's. so i think i'm gonna wait till 2014 and then do a custom watercooling loop :)
