cluelessgenius

soo... i buddy just asked me what i think of a 3070 ti for him. cost about 700. i have been out of the market for a while so i thought id ask you guys.

any recommendations? i heard amd`s 6000 series is supposed to be quite good as well. also looking for watercoolable options.

buying in germany

"You know it'll clock down as soon as it hits 40°C, right?" - "Yeah ... but it doesnt hit 40°C ... ever  😄"

you should take a look at 6900xt prices where you live, they can be cheaper and they perform a LOT better.  they also have double the VRAM and it doesnt draw that much more power.  and the 6900xt overclocks pretty alright so thats another + if you are going to watercool.

interesting but the 6900 xt is 100 bucks more expensive at least. the 6800 xt ist about the same as the 3070 ti. any thoughts about that?

6800xt is still faster than rtx 3070ti, it is basicly the same as the 6900xt but the only difference is the cu count and clocks.  72 cu's instead of 80 and slightly lower clocks

it has the same memory, and the same TDP, so its great!

With the 4070ti at 800$ a 3070 for $700 is a really bad deal

the 4070 ti is 900 at the absolute cheapest around here not to mention finding one thats watercoolable also ive heard all kinds of bad things about the 4000 series.

Even if it's $900 a 4070TI is still better price/perf than a 3070 $700 as it's around 50% more performance, better RT, DLSS3 etc...

It's even less of a debate if you're planning to spend +$200 in watercooling for the card!!

What bad did you hear on 4000 series ? Price are stupidly high sure, but on 3000s too.. And the burning hpwr connector was a pretty rare occurence, due to phsysical constraints on not that good connectors, just use one coming from your PSU manufacturer, plug it fully and you're good

keep in mind that he is from germany, tax is included in these prices.  i live in belgium, right next to germany and the ceapest 3070ti is 679, and the others are about 700€

i think a radeon 6000 card is better overall.

I'm in Europe too, I use Dropreference app to monitor prices, Techpowerup realtive scores for performance

Cheaper 3070 is 600EUR, used as 100% performance reference; cost/perf is 6

Cheaper 6950XT is 950EUR, 6900XT are mostly out of stock and the few that exist are 1000+...6950XT perf is 156%, cost/perf 6.1

cheaper 7900XT is 1000EUR, performance 160%, cost/perf is a bit higher 6.25

Then 4070Ti is 950EUR, performance 150%, cost/perf 6.33 but it has better RT, DLSS, better drivers, and better efficiency

Overall price/perf is pretty flat over the range (5% difference is negligible), yet newer cards are always more efficient, and have better RT

So if you're budet limited get the best you can, else get the 4070Ti!

alright alright if they werent so god damn scetchy. first of all if i remember right you need a new psu with as big of a headroom as you can so it can handle the power comsumption spikes. then you have to constantly fear about the connector catching fire. and then well my somewhat aged knowledge would also suggest nvidia got better effiency but again 4000 series made headlines for the exact opposite. soooo.. idk its just not really the poster child. also RT is way overhyped. theres just not much content out there. i mean i hope it catches on but i just dont see beeing that big of a deal right now.

In reality new gen do consume *same or less* power than previous one, even the 4090 don't need more than the 3090Ti (450W), 4070Ti has samey 290W TDP that 3070Ti etc

The new gen even has less transient spikes than the previous one (according to GN tests), so you need the same PSU power for a same tier GPU on both gen

The 12VHPWR connector issue is real but can be easily avoided (just take care to plug properly the cable..)

I agree RT isn't that exciting currently, but it'll become more and more widespread, and it's not an issue to have better RT than a worse one...
