Nope. You'll get worse performance than even built in graphics because usb 3 uses x2 lanes wheras something as low as a 1060 uses x16. You just need to buy a new laptop

Usb 3 uses x2 and is

PCIE 3.0 uses 1gbps per lane

well, do you have any recommendations using usb? (except for usb-c)

Not possible.

Thunderbolt has a direct pcie link which is REQUIRED for a e-gpu. Usb adapters that clame to support it are lying.

Without thunderbolt or usb4 WITH pcie link (doesnt work yet fully) you can NOT use e-gpu.

Also keep in mind the bandwith is AT BEST a x4 3.0 link which is very slow for a gpu. So performance can be severly limited. Its why for example a e-gpu 3090 often performs worse than a normal desktop 3060. Simply due to bandwith limits.

Also you need to make sure your cpu is also capable enough as that can easily turn into its own issue.

Usb doesnt have ANY pcie connectivity so it simply can not work.

Usb4 is the only one to have it as an OPTIONAL thing and that at best runs at x4 3.0 speed.
