VisualDsp++4.5 is compiler/editor program from Analog devices for Blackfin processors, etc.

LabVIEW 8.2 comes with embedded module patch for Blackfin CPUs(as separate installer on CD)..if the patch is installed VisualDSP 4.5 opens without problem, if patch is removed VisualDSP starts asking for license!!

Why is it depending on LabVIEW to run?

Along with the patch a update(in VDU file format) from Analog Devices is needed to be installed for VisualDSP to run.

Attaching SS of NI manual indicating about installing VisualDSP and LabVIEW!!

Most likely LabView has an agreement with AD to include a license for using VisualDSP within the LabView environment, you get a VisualDSP license by buying the LabView license but it's only valid when operating them together.

So if I want to use VisualDSP independently ,i need to seperately activate it?

Also if trial period of LabVIEW expires then VisualDSP expires too( incase both not activated)

Yep most likely. You should read each provider's docs/terms though to be sure.
