I built my first pc about half a year ago, and have consistently had issues with my motherboard detecting my graphics card. My parts are all compatible and perform well, but whenever I remove my gpu (mainly for transporting my build) my mobo will not detect my graphics card when I place it back in. The only solution I have found is to take out my ram and boot my pc with one ram stick and my gpu, then I power off and put my other stick in and boot. This generally works but my build is itx and accessing the ram and going through the whole process is a challenge. Any ideas as to what might be causing this or potential alternative solutions ?

For reference I always ensure all cables are fully connected and my pc is fully powered off when transporting etc, also I currently have xmp enabled but this issue happened even without xmp.

Parts are

  • GPU: Msi 3080 10gb suprim
  • RAM: 2x16gb 3600 ddr4 ballistix
  • MOBO: Asus Rog strix x570i
  • CPU: Ryzen 5900x
  • PSU: 850watt gold cooler master

Hi

There are several possible causes for your issue, and it might be helpful to troubleshoot the problem by trying the following steps:

  1. Make sure that your graphics card is properly seated in the PCI-Express slot on the motherboard. It's possible that the card is not making good contact with the motherboard, which can cause it to be undetected.

  2. Check the power connections to your graphics card. Make sure that the power cables are properly plugged in and that the connectors are secure.

  3. Check the BIOS settings for your motherboard. Make sure that the onboard graphics are disabled and that the graphics card is set as the primary display.

  4. Check for any BIOS updates for your motherboard. Sometimes, a BIOS update can resolve issues with hardware detection.

  5. Try reseating the RAM in the motherboard. It's possible that the RAM is not making good contact with the motherboard, which can cause issues with hardware detection.

  6. If none of these steps help, it's possible that there is a hardware issue with your graphics card or motherboard. In this case, you may need to contact the manufacturer for further assistance.

It's also a good idea to make sure that your computer is well-ventilated, as overheating can cause issues with hardware detection. Make sure that all of your fans are working properly and that there is adequate airflow through your computer.
