I want to gift a friend of mine an upggrade bundle so he can hopefully rock BF2042 and Diablo IV with his GTX 980 on a 1080p Monitor, the question is which one?

What's he got now for a CPU/Board/RAM?

 

But out of the two, I'd lean towards the Ryzen.

Why, does it perform better in games?

probably fairly comparable cpu performance, but the B550 has Gen 4 PCIE and can go up to Ryzen 5000 chips for a good upgrade later
