Ethernet connection between two rooms

I have bit of a unique situation in the apartment I live in with my brother. My grandfather, the superintendent at the time, somehow had the room that is my bedroom added to the building after it was built. So some years ago the original window to the outside that was in between my brother's and I bedrooms was boarded up with a wall on either side for "privacy purposes" and to provide my brother's room with internet, laid through a Cat 5e cable from 2001 from my switch to his before completing the walls.

I'm just wondering if all this time later I am missing on some other, better and more elegant solution to this, or if I'm overthinking it. There's the possibility of snaking an ethernet cable through where my brother has coax coming into the room from the living room where the router is now.

Also, as it is, I have an ethernet cable running from that router into my bedroom bypassing a door that is not as flush as my brother's so simply running a cable through his door would prevent his door from being able to be shut, not really an option.

It's to hard to tell just from your description what the most 'elegent' solution would be and you're best positioned to make that judgement given you're there. However by the sounds of it you're both hardwired to the router so it does sound like as you alluded to that you might just be overthinking it.

Some general advice I can give for running cables is use cleats or cable staples to tack the wire to walls along skirting board tends to work best, and if you've got access to the tools drill a hole in the wall instead of running cables under doors although if you're renting you would need landlords permission and just be careful not to drill through any power, plumbing or gas that's hidden in the walls
