When you have a i3-8100, the i5-6500 is more of a side grade and you need to replace the motherboard because it's not compatibel with Intel 300 series chipsets.

Better get a i5-8400/8500/8600/9400/9500/9600 or i7-8700 for cheap.

You will have more bottleneck as the i5 is older and slower.聽

Is the 8100 so bad with the RX570? I was once running a RX580 with a 980X (@4.4GHz) so intel core 1. Gen and it ran quite well... Yes its an i7 but its from 2010...聽聽

Yes. 6c/6t is a lot easier to work with in modern titles than 4c/4t. If you can find a cheap i7 8700, then that's even better as it's hyper-threaded. If either chip is much over $100-200 though, it's often better to just save a bit more and upgrade to a current platform. At least in the US, it's about $250-300 for a solid budget gaming CPU, motherboard, and RAM all together (in your case you could use the RAM you already have, so that cost would be lower).聽

This could have gone in your other thread. The i5 7400 is functionally the same chip as the i5 6500, everything said in the other thread about that applies here as well.聽

As mentioned before, an i5-8400 is a good move. Two extra cores and slight CPU clock speed increase. Also, if you only have one stick of ram, a second stick of ram will provide you with dual channel, and can give a good performance boost.

There is no one answer.

Bottlenecks change with the task being done.聽 So, you don't have a single answer for this.

Also:聽 Bottleneck Calculators are trash.

Yes, the 7400 will bottleneck exactly the same as the 6500 because it is functionally the same chip. Both will around the same, or a tad slower, than the 8100 you already have.聽

How'd you figure that? Ran benchmarks before and after the change?

uhhh that sounds like you were having other issues then.

Furmark also is not a benchmark, it's a power virus workload for testing extreme thermal load.聽
