ram Question on mixing ram

So i have a asus tuf laptop, with 1 stick of 8GB ram, i was wondering is there any risks to adding another 8Gigs from a different brand but of the same speed and DDR type?
The ram's DDR4 and speed is 2400Mhz so is it safe to assume that another stick from a differeent brand would work fine or good? or are there any risks?

RAM is built to specifications as you noted, 2400MHz is one of them.  Check the timings as well.  You should have no problem throwing in another 8GB stick of 2400Mhz, as the machine will run them both at the slowest speed/timings of the two.

 

No risks.  If it doesn't work, you'll get crashing but no damage.  Just return it then.  That's the extent of your risk.

It should work, especially at such a low speeds (i.e. no overclock/XMP), but there's always a small risk it won't boot.

I had a 2333 and a 3200 MHz ram in my pc at the same time recently changed to 2 x 3200 and didn't really saw a difference also have 16 GBS btw

that's good to know, by timing do you mean just the cas latency? if so that is 17

best practice is to get the same stick. if not possible get the same speed / latency.

Yes, that is the primary but the other 2 are timings as well.  CL is the more important/impactful.

 

17 is slower for 2400MHz but it'll be fine.
