I'd say that the tech is nowhere near that yet. It's not so much a matter of screen resolution, it's the resolution of the models and the power of the GPUs.

Think about how sharp and detailed a real persons face look. Games are no where near photorealstic to fool our brains. We can easily suspend our disbelief and accept that the moving puppets are humans and elves, but we are not fooled by it.

Also, the hardware that should handle these über detailed models would be power-hungry beyond belief, not to mention the storage capacity.

mITX is awesome! I regret nothing (apart from when picking parts or have to do maintainance *cough*cough*)

No. We can already render CGI video that looks essentially photorealistic.

The problem is rendering that in real time. Resolution is not the problem at all actually. Even rendering something in 1080p in real time that's true photorealistic would be difficult if not impossible for consumer equipment.

We can barely render high quality non-photorealistic games at 4K, let alone 8K. It'll happen, but slowly.

Actual photorealistic real time rendering for 4K, let alone 8K, is doable, eventually, but not anytime soon.

It will get there, but probably at least 20 years of solid improvement to be able to render that kind of detail in 8k in real time. The real question would be it's viability. The time needed to develop systems to render in that kind of detail would be a lot of work, and I wonder truely if consumers would buy a game just based on looking like amazing CGI. It'd be cool, but other than that, kind of pointless.

please tag me for a response, It's really hard to keep tabs on every thread I reply to. thanks!!
