Hi, everyone. I want to build a VPN server for my company, so I can access its internal server while I am away in Europe, China, etc.

I need access for videos and large files sometimes.

I just want build something realiable, that I might leave it on for months.

I searched on the internet, my plan is to build a desktop with old xeon cpu. Then I will install linux and run a VPN server program.

Can anyone tell me wheather this list works? I never build severs like this.

(I already have a NH u12s cooler, but with no mounting kit, so I thought just to buy a mounting kit.)

If it doesn't have a m.2 slot, chance booting to nvme is slim (check the mobo manual).

Just get a sata ssd.

Is there a reason you're building a full sized server tower just to handle VPN routing? There are a plethora of Industrial mini-PC's with 4-port NIC's capable of running pfSense, or for $30 less you can use a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 4 to operate a VPN connection for remote clients.

To be clear, if you're doing this build simply because you want to, all the power to ya - it's fun to learn things. However, if this is for a business, it's better to use a reliably tried & true solution than be constantly called into the office to fix issues with custom-built server hardware.

Desktop: KiRaShi-Intel-2022 (i5-12600K, 5060 Ti) Mobile: Moto Razr 50 Ultra (Razr+ 2024) | 30GB CAN+US+MEX $30/month
Laptop: Lenovo Yoga 7i (16") 82UF0015US (i7-12700H, 16GB/2TB RAM/SSD, A370M GPU) Tablet: Lenovo Tab Plus (256GB)
Camera: Canon M6 Mark II | Canon Rebel T1i (500D) | Canon SX280 Music: Spotify Premium (CIRCA '08)

Thank you so much for your advice on my vpn server.

The model you recommended is sold out, i did a search on Amazon.

do you think TP-Link ER7206 would work as a vpn server to connect my company’s network?
