Hello everyone!.

I wonder if someone can help me with this conundrum.

I have this little bit of an older MOB Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P FX (rev. 2.1) and it doesn't have a slot for an NVMe. After looking for a solution I saw that people make NVME SSD to PCIe Adapter's; Here is an example of one I found in Ebay - https://www.ebay.com/itm/132834219674?hash=item1eed89569a:g:GVUAAOSwXedcAcpa&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA0B5NDFw3M1Ne%2BxTvVCt0o71vD8IdII%2FQHBqZU7GEkHPxN6Fp8fd%2Bnso3B6CTEIQ1XBs%2BLWnzuy0zCcPqhQCY1Y5uxgZFGmaiesLtVKyyt6Zsz%2F9EubQI94ZpwQQFFy00g48sDeNcRSkKtFhRdOhPz9uVLpvAg0l0K00laGhZdLz7N8n0TCH54rxmf%2FE9Ui4rsImmuxtAV7xZXOQjv90KN1R1VpHhRYh%2BORebLqoo%2Fo3l9gdjsdmihzMMyieekq0tUW3rYn9KJBMH9B4tZBphiTg%3D|tkp%3ABlBMUKCwheSfYQ

Could I use this to buy an NVMe and get those awesome speeds? And will it be some what or fully compatible with my MOBO? Will this be okay to use? What could I expect? What if anything can go wrong? Will I just be wasting my money?

Also, I found this https://www.amazon.com/WD_Black-AN1500-Internal-Gaming-Card/dp/B08HBXDX8R/ref=asc_df_B08HBXDX8R/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=475692076734&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16258208785618991311&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9026926&hvtargid=pla-1065380709049&th=1

And wonder if it would be better than buying the add on card but it's more $ which I'm not wanting to spend.

Yea those adapters wil work, but you probably won't be able to boot from the drive(well without doing bios mods or bootloader stuff).

What are you using the storage for? The sequential speeds won't matter for almost all usecases, and a sata ssd feels about the same as a nvme drive. And your will likely be cpu limited for most workloads with those drives too.

You also only have gen 2 pcie slots, so you can get a max of 2gb/s from the common m.2 drives.

Thanks.

I am only going to be installing games onto it, nothing much else really. I have a newer pc but just wanted to keep that older one a little more updated. It already has a Kingston SSD, but only 240 gb so I wanted to just add an NVMe since I didn't want manage more cables.
