That's what I was thinking too at the beginning but if I want to upgrade later and install the ssd in a pcie gen4 slot I would have to remove the whole front plate permanently and I don't really wanna do that. Basically, short term it works but long term it doesn't.

I guess in that case, I would recommend the Samsung 980 Pro. It's been on sale for $170-$180 for 2TB. It comes in a version with a heatsink and one without. That's my other Gen 4 SSD, and also blazing fast, top reviews, etc etc

I'm currently building my pc and I bought the corsair mp600 pro xt because it's a pretty good ssd and I liked the heatsink. Come to figure out later that my motherboard (the z790 aorus master from gigabyte) already have an ssd heatsink and I don't want to mess around removing the heatsink from my corsair drive. I can still return it so that's not an issue but I don't know what to buy to replace it. I just need something that is relatively the same but without a heatsink. Any suggestions?

If you like the heatsink on the Corsair (as did I, I have the same SSD), why not use that instead of the one that came with the MB? Just remove the MB heatsink and store it for later use. The Corsair is a beast in my rig, no issues so far and blazing fast.

Just a thought

I was thinking going 980 pro but was wondering if there was something better that I wasn't aware of. If you say it's a good drive I'm gonna roll with it. Thanks a lot!

It gets praise by most reviewers, including many on this forum and has been a great SSD for me so far (just over 1 year). It has never gotten beyond 40 degree C under load, specs at about 7000MB read. Best of luck and enjoy it! If you haven't experienced Gen 3 or 4 speeds for read/write yet, it's gonna put a smile on your face!
