Which Windows for New Build?

As far as I know, the product keys are interchangeable. (Windows 11 Pro keys will activate Windows 10 Pro, etc.) You can always install 11 and run it for a while without activating, just to see how you like it. If you don't, install 10 and activate that. You'll still get updates until October 2025.

Beware cheap key resellers. They're usually gray-market keys intended for large institutions or developing parts of the world. Sure, you get a key, but you don't get a guarantee that it's going to keep working for the life of your PC.

Win 10.

I'll be mainly gaming, so doesn't WIN 11 benefit that?

The curmudgeonly, paranoid, and kicking-and-screaming will rant up down and sideways about interface changes and Microsoft tracking your every thought if you run Windows 11. Some of them have valid points, some will be reflexively repeating hearsay.

They did the same thing when Windows 10 was new. And when Windows 8 was new. And when Windows 7 was new. And when Windows Vista was new. And when Windows XP was new...

Run whichever one you want. Try both. It's fine. Your key is good for the same edition (Home or Pro) of either. If you like 10 better, you have two and a half years of security updates before you have to switch. (At which point you'll be able to, because your license will still be good.) If you like 11 and want to install it now, that's fine too.

I've been doing a lot of windows deployments lately and I'm really hating Windows 11. Every single new PC I've deployed I've reverted back to Win10 to get around some glitch with Win11..

Windows 8 was annoying vs 7 simply because of the GUI. In all other respects it was better. Win11 is so far just a PITA vs 10.

That's my question, which windows to choose?

  1. - Windows 10
  2. - Windows 11

Also, does any one know where to get a legit copy of windows (Europe) cheaper?

Build: 5600x + 6900 XT

They are both great OS.

Windows 10 end of life support is end of 2025, you can use either

Windows 11 brings a lot of new features and improvements. Up to you if you care.

Personally, I recommend Windows 11 due to the mass set of improvements. That said, if you can't live without app ungrouping or moving the taskbar, then stick with Windows 10, at least for now.

Windows 11 requires an SSD.
