Other details currently have a pc with a

Ryzen 5 3600

16 gb ram DDR4-3200

Rtx 2060

MSI x570 gaming MoBo.

800watt power supply

Was gonna upgrade to a 3070 but I was reading the overall performance jump may not be worth it. That and with the lower end 40 series cards coming out sometime next year may be better to wait it out.

Given my budget and current build what would be my best upgrade path?

This is a great time to pick up bargains the used market, what with the crypto crash and next-gen GPU launches and all. I myself got my hands on a 2080 for 3050/3060 prices a few months ago.If you play your cards right, an RX6900XT, RTX2080ti or RTX3080 are all more or less attainable in the 500-600 USD range the 3070 typically sells for.

As for new hardware, there isn't much else in that price range apart from something like an RX6800 or 6700XT. Both offer similar-ish performance to the 3070, so if you don't see that card as a worthwhile upgrade you're unlikely to see them as one either. Wait for new GPUs to come out if that's what you want.

I think a 5600 and 6700XT fall in your budget, and would get you solid 1440p performance for many years.

If you plan a new PC build in the next 2-3 years, then I'd suggest just saving your money for now, though.
