BIOS not booting, black screen

Hello everybody! I just finished building my brother's pc for Christmas but when I tried to boot it nothing came up. The fans and rgb ram turn on. Components I'm using: MB: GIGABYTE a320m-s2h

CPU: RYZEN 5 5500

Psu: 550watt 

Ram: 16 gigs 3200 corsair rgb

Gpu: PNY 1070 

I know that the bios needs to be updated for the cpu.

If the board doesn't have a BIOS that supports the CPU out of the box: it won't even POST. if your board has BIOS flashback without a CPU needed, you can get it up a running.

Get a shop to update for you

 

If the tpm header is spi based you can use that to flash bios yourself with a cheapo ch341a and some jumper wires but seems like abolutely noone on the internet has any idea of what the pinout on that tpm header is

I am not sure why you even suggested that as you dont even need know what the pinout for TPM header is. Get a SOIC8/SOP8 test clip and flash the EEPROM directly.

Eh never had any luck with that so gave up and just focused on flashing via spi, although i do have some solder paste now so i can fix my testclip and see if itll work now

 

You do need to power the board to flash right?

No as long programmer supplies its own power (which most if not all do).

So i can just plug the test clip onto the bios chip without having to power the board?

 

Tried that a few times and never worked though i do know now that these test clips are soldered pretty horribly and break off quite easily so maybe i just got a bad one and fixing myself to ensure its actually soldered properly will make it work now

 

itd be nice to have a way to flash on boards with no spi header or unknown spi header pinout

 

Although is there a decent alternative to the test clip when theres not enough space to use the test clip aside from flashing via spi?
