Looking to upgrade my old trusty 1060 6gb finally. Skipped 2k, 3k series nvidia due to high expectations? Beginning to feel the pain with fps on newer games.

I'm thinking i've held out too long but maybe my expectations are too high, and thus im asking this question. Am I going to see a huge noticeable improvement upgrading now? I currently use a 21:9 1440p 100hz, with a secondary 1440p 16:9 144hz monitor for videos. I tested 21:9 with a budget monitor and stuck with it even with lower hz. I plan to upgrade this down the line.

My budget is $1k. I dont mind spending a little more, just want results really. I've been eyeing 3090/3090ti when they were hitting just shy of $1k mark, holding off currently to see what 7900xtx does. What gpu would you upgrade to if you were in my situation in the next months or so time?

Buy a Used GPU, you can get a 3080 for around 450-500$, Dont pay more then 550$ for a 3080ti/ 308012 GB, and dont pay more then 650ish for a 3090/3090ti.

I generally wouldnt recommend you buy a 7900XTX with a 100hz monitor honestly, you need a 240hz good quality to get the most out of it.  But you like 21:9.

Ive been waiting so far with my 1080ti, and if that LG OLED 240z 1440p monitor comes out next year and has a decent price dip, thats when id recommend upgrading. Pricing should stabilize by then.

Thanks for the pricing caps, I didn't factor in Used market or know what I should be paying.

For 1440p 100+ fps, 6800 XT or 3080 would be perfect, any AAA game would run at 100+ fps at the highest settings (w/o RT).

For those, especially 3090, you'd need a fast CPU, at least 12600K, my 12400 is bottlenecking my 6800 XT in Spider-man Remastered and CP2077 1440p highest settings.

So, please account for your CPU's capability as well.
